Have you noticed how video-driven everything has become?
It kind of snuck up on us. Now I feel like I’m constantly saying things like, “Did you see that video?” or “I was watching this thing on my phone…” That has become such a normal way to start a conversation.
And it’s everywhere. Reels, short videos, clips, scrolling. So many of the apps we use have moved from pictures and captions to just video after video after video.
And I’ll be honest, it is easy to get pulled in.
Sometimes it feels almost effortless. You open your phone for one thing, and before you know it, your eyes have taken in a flood of content. Some of it is funny. Some of it is helpful. Some of it is harmless. But some of it is not.
And Jesus warned us that what we take in with our eyes matters.
Matthew 6:22-23 says, “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness.”
That verse makes me stop and think about what I’m letting into my heart through my eyes.
Because what I watch can shape me. What I keep looking at can affect my thoughts, my attitude, my desires, and even the way I see people. It may feel like I’m just scrolling, but something is being fed.
So I think this is a good question to ask: is what I’m watching filling me with light or darkness?
