You’ve probably bought something on sale before and noticed the store put a limit on how many you could buy.
It’ll say something like, “$3.99, limit 4.” And maybe it’s a really good deal, so you’d like to buy more, but the store cuts you off. You can have four, and that’s it.
That got me thinking about prayer. What would I pray for this week if I only had a limit of four? I think those prayers would suddenly feel a lot heavier. I’d probably be very careful about what made the list, because I wouldn’t want to waste one.
But the goodness of God is that He does not put a limit on our prayers. There is no daily maximum. There are no special prayer hours. There is no “good only if prayed this Friday and Saturday.” Because of Jesus and His finished work, we can come to God with every need, every hurt, every worry, every injustice, and every person we care about.
Mark 11:24 says, “I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
Sometimes I think I can treat prayer like I need to save it for the really big things, but God has never asked me to ration my prayers. And if there is no limit to the prayers I can bring before Him, I don’t want to live like there is.
There is too much grace in that invitation to leave it unused.
