Sometimes you’re scrolling through social media and come across something that is short, simple, and way more powerful than you expected.
I saw a post recently that said, “Sin feels like freedom until you try to stop.”
I think that really is one of sin’s biggest deceptions. It tells me I can do what I want, when I want, how I want, with whoever I want. It makes everything sound like freedom.
But then comes the moment when you realize it was never really freedom at all...
You try to stop. You try to walk away from the thing you thought you were in control of, and suddenly it feels much harder than you expected. What seemed harmless, or easy, or private, or manageable starts to feel like something that has a hold on you.
Jesus said it very clearly in John 8:34: “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.”
It's a hard truth, but I’m thankful Jesus does not leave us there. Just a couple verses later, John 8:36 says, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
That is the greater truth. Sin may promise freedom, but Jesus is the only One who can actually give it. He can forgive what needs to be forgiven, break what needs to be broken, and lead us into a kind of freedom that sin could never offer.
