Storms that battered Dallas-Fort Worth over the past several days triggered a federal disaster declaration, so FEMA programs are available to you if you were hit. The Dallas Morning News reports that Disaster 4781 (Designated Areas | FEMA.gov) covers storm damage dating back to April 26 in over 20 Texas counties, including Collin, Cooke, Denton, Henderson and Montague. Dallas and Ellis Counties remain under review, but if that is where you live, be aware that Gov. Abbot has requested assistance for those counties, also. To report storm damage, use the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool, iSTAT Damage Surveys (texas.gov).
What is covered? In addition to getting help to cover uninsured damage to your home or property, you can receive assistance with getting food, water, prescriptions, baby formula, diapers and other necessities. If your home is uninhabitable, you can seek assistance for hotel rental. You can also apply for help with child care expenses and funds to help repair or replace damaged vehicles. The cost of moving and storing personal property to prevent further damage might also be covered.
How do I apply? Apply online at Home | disasterassistance.gov, download the FEMA app for your cell phone, FEMA Mobile Products | FEMA.gov or call 800-621-3362.
