Could you ever be too joyful? Or show too much kindness?
I was reading Galatians 5 last night, where it talks about the fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23 says, “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”
That’s usually where I stop when I read that verse. I think about each of those things and what they should look like in my life. But this time, I noticed the sentence that comes right after it: “Against such things there is no law.”
I thought that was such a sweet little reminder, because there are a lot of things in life you can do too much. You can drive too fast and get a ticket. You can eat too much and feel sick. You can even talk too much, and the Bible has something to say about that too.
But you can never share too much of the love of God. You can never be too full of His joy, too patient, too kind, too gentle, or too faithful. There is no rule against having too much self-control or showing too much goodness.
Those are things God wants to keep growing in us.
And I love that, because it gives me something simple to pray. Lord, grow more of that in me. More love. More joy. More peace. More patience. More kindness. More of the fruit that points people back to You.
