How often do you think about the return of Jesus?
I’ll be honest, I probably think more often about meeting Jesus after I die than I think about the reality that He could actually come back today. And that’s something I’ve been thinking about this week.
Matthew 16:27 says, “For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.”
That’s a big verse. Jesus is coming back. That is not just a future idea somewhere way out there. It’s a real promise.
And then I was reading a familiar passage in Hebrews about gathering together as believers, and I noticed something I think I’ve probably glossed over before.
Hebrews 10:25 says, “Not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
That last part is what got me. “As you see the Day approaching.” That’s talking about the return of Christ.
So yes, going to church matters for spiritual growth. It matters for encouragement. It matters for accountability. But I think it also matters because when we gather together, we remind each other of what is true.
Jesus is coming back.
And that should stir something in us. Hope, yes. But also urgency. There are still people who need to know Him. There are still people who need to hear the truth. There is still work to do.
Going to church is not just about checking a box for the week. It’s part of how we keep one another awake to the truth that Jesus is returning.
And that changes how we live today.
