Next month, something pretty unusual is happening. It's called The Cato, and it hasn't happened in a long, long time ' like, over 200 years.
Here's the lowdown: The Cato is when two types of cicadas, the 13-year and 17-year ones, both decide to come out at once. And get this ' it's happening in mid-May. But here's the silver lining ' for us Texans, it's not hitting our area. Nope, it's heading to places like Louisiana, Oklahoma, and a few others.
Now, these cicadas are pretty big and can be a bit of a nuisance. I remember one time I was on my motorcycle, cruising along, when one of them decided to smack me right in the face. Ouch!
But here's something interesting ' some people actually think these bugs taste good. Yeah, weird, right? They say they have a sweet, nutty flavor. Just a heads-up though, if you're allergic to shellfish, maybe give them a pass.
