A Brave Prayer Worth Praying | Morning Motivator

Am I that trusting?

That’s the question I was asking myself yesterday after I read a prayer online. It was simple: “God, if it’s not Your will, let it slip through my grasp, and then give me the peace not to worry about it.”

That is a brave prayer, because it’s one thing to ask God for what I need. It’s another thing to hold it with open hands and say, “Lord, if this is not what You want for me, I trust You enough to let it go.”

I don’t know about you, but that’s not always the way I pray. A lot of times, I come to God with the need already attached to my own plan. I know what I want to happen. I know how I think it should work out. So I bring the need, bring the plan, and then ask God to bless it and make it happen.

And I do believe God wants us to bring our needs and requests to Him. But I also want to remember that prayer is not just asking God to approve my plan. It’s trusting the heart of my Father, even when His will looks different from what I had in mind.

Jesus taught His disciples to pray this way in Matthew 6:10: “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

That's not a small prayer. It means I am asking God’s will to be done, even if it changes my plans, closes a door, redirects my steps, or asks me to wait longer than I wanted.

So maybe this is a prayer worth praying today: “Lord, if it’s not Your will, let it slip through my grasp. And if You do, give me the peace not to worry about it.”

That kind of trust may not come naturally to me, but I want it to grow.
