Have you ever had a season where you looked at what was happening around you and asked God, “What is going on?”
I have. Those moments can be really unnerving, especially when you thought you understood where God was leading you. Early in my radio career, I was laid off from my first radio job because of budget cuts. That job was supposed to be my entry point into this lifelong career, at least that’s how I had it worked out in my mind. Then suddenly, the door I thought God had opened was slamming shut.
I was disappointed and confused, but I still had bills to pay, so I took a job cleaning carpets while I kept praying and looking for other opportunities. As the weeks went on, the money got tighter, and there were no new job prospects in front of me. That was hard on my faith, because I couldn’t understand why things were happening that way.
Then I got a phone call I never expected. The same radio station that had laid me off had found room in the budget to bring me back. I thought that door had closed for good, but God made a way I could not have seen coming.
Looking back now, I can see that while my plan was unraveling, God’s plan never did. It just had a few more turns than I expected.
Jesus says in Matthew 6:31-32, “Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ ... your Heavenly Father knows that you need them all.”
That is the part I need to remember when life does not make sense. My Heavenly Father knows what I need. He knows the bills, the job situation, the closed door, the stress, and the questions I am carrying. I may not always understand the timing or the route He chooses, but I can trust that He has not lost track of me.
So if your plan feels like it is unraveling right now, don’t assume God’s plan is unraveling too. He may be leading you through a few more turns than you expected, but He still knows what you need, and He can make a way you never saw coming.
