When was the last time you had nothing planned? Heidi and I have zero plans this weekend – other than church and being on the radio - but we’re excited about this. Ever since we moved to Texas back in September, we’ve filled every weekend with something to do, something to see, a place to explore, but this weekend – NOTHING.
It seems like we always have to fill every moment, but there’s something really beautiful about just letting the day unfold, right? Does that feel a little uncomfortable, especially if you’re always busy? Good! That means it’s something new for you.
Sometimes, we think we need to have everything mapped out, but God reminds us that He’s the one directing our steps. “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9). When we free up our schedules, we create space for God to surprise us—maybe with a peaceful moment, an unexpected chat with a friend, or a little adventure we never saw coming.
Jesus often stepped away from the crowds just to be still, to rest, and to pray. If He made time for that, we probably should too!
So, if today is wide open, if the weekend is wide open for you, enjoy it! Take a walk, sit in the quiet, call a friend, or just soak in the simple joy of…nothing’. Who knows? God might have something special in store for you. After all, “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
So, enjoy the….I don’t know? Have fun!
