What makes sharing your faith so hard?
I was praying for a friend yesterday, and she was being really honest about that. She said she has no problem sending someone a Bible verse in a text, wearing a shirt with Scripture on it, or sharing something about Jesus on social media. But when it comes to sitting across from someone and talking about faith one on one, she gets intimidated.
And I understood exactly what she meant.
I think part of the reason it feels so hard is because we can start believing the outcome depends entirely on us. I can feel like I need to say everything perfectly, have the right answer to every question, and somehow convince the other person to believe.
But the truth is, I am not the one who changes a heart. I can share the truth. I can love the person in front of me. I can be ready to explain why I have hope in Jesus. But God has a part to play that only He can do.
David understood something about that when he stood in front of Goliath. In 1 Samuel 17:47, he said, “The battle is the Lord’s.”
Sharing my faith does not mean I have to win the whole battle in my own strength. I just need to be faithful with the part God has given me. He is the One who works in hearts. He is the One who opens eyes. He is the One who draws people to Himself.
