DFW has been hit with quite a bit of rain recently, turning our usual routes into a bit of a maze. Yesterday, on our way home, our GPS pointed us to the fastest route, but we were stopped by a road blocked with signal flares and a police car ' completely flooded. How crazy would it have been for us to just drive around the signal flares and the police car that was there and go that way anyway?
This reminded me of how the Holy Spirit works, much like those flares. Galatians 5:16 tells us, "Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh." The Holy Spirit sends us signals to protect us, often steering us away from unseen dangers.
It's not always easy to heed these warnings. I could see the flooded road yesterday, so I understood the flares... but sometimes the thing the Spirit is warning me about is less clear. Reflecting on this, I realize my challenge is to not just recognize these spiritual warnings but to actively follow them. It's about choosing not to drive around the Holy Spirit's guidance, but rather, trusting that He's leading us away from trouble and towards safety.
