God can use just about anything to get your attention, and for me this week, it was one word.
I saw the word “yield” on a church website that was talking about how God changes us, and I could not shake it. Maybe because I see that word almost every day on my drive home. There is a merge lane with a yield sign, and the drivers in that lane are supposed to slow down and let the other traffic have the right of way.
The problem is, a lot of people don’t yield.
They just keep driving like the sign isn't even there, and then everybody else has to react. Cars swerve, brakes get slammed, horns start honking, and the whole thing gets messy because the people who are supposed to yield are not yielding.
That made me think about my own life with the Lord, because I know I am supposed to yield everything to Christ, but sometimes I don’t. My pride says, “I know what’s best. I’ve got this.” I want to keep control of my plans, my timing, my opinions, and the things I think I can handle on my own.
And usually, that's when things start to get messy.
Ephesians 1:22 says, “God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything.”
That means Jesus is in charge. Not me.
God is asking me to be yielded to Him, not because He is trying to take something good away from me, but because He wants to change me and make my life fruitful for His kingdom. He knows what needs to be surrendered. He knows what I am still gripping too tightly. He knows the places where I am driving straight through the yield sign like it does not apply to me.
So I’m asking myself honestly today: what do I still need to yield to the Lord?
