If you’ve ever run into an old friend you haven’t seen in a long time, you’ve probably asked, “How long has it been?”
That happened a lot at a conference we went to recently. We saw people we really like, people we enjoy being around, and we were all trying to catch up. But then you kind of realize… we haven’t really had any relationship since the last time we were all together.
And I started thinking, why is that?
Sometimes I think the same thing happens with God. I still know and love Him, but that closeness doesn’t feel the same, and at some point I have to ask myself, how long has it been?
How long has it been since I really sat with Jesus? Since I prayed without rushing? Since I opened the Bible?
Maybe you know that feeling too. Like it’s been a while, and you don’t feel as close to Jesus or the Holy Spirit as you once did.
The good news is, He’s not making it complicated to come back.
Joel 2:12–13 says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts… Return to the Lord your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.”
That sounds like an open invitation to me.
If it’s been a while, maybe today is a good day to catch up with Jesus. He’s merciful. He’s compassionate. And He’s still inviting you close.
