Hugo is a mailman in Charlotte, just doing his job and trying to make ends meet like the rest of us. One day on his route, he stopped by a local dental office - Providence PDO - and left a handwritten note. He explained that he’d lost his retainer, and wondered if there was any way they could help.
That’s it. No big ask. Just a simple, humble note.
The next day, the dental team left a note back: “Dr. Adam would love to make you a new retainer, free of charge.”
They didn’t have to say yes. But they did. And it made my whole day when I saw the photo of Hugo smiling with his new retainer in hand, standing next to the staff who made it happen.
It reminded me of James 2:16: “If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?”
The gospel isn’t just something we talk about. It’s something we live, one small, kind act at a time.
