I was in line at the store the other day when the person ahead of me handed the cashier a stack of $20 bills. And instead of just stuffing them into the drawer, she held up each one to the light – one at a time. She wasn’t rushing through it. She was checking for the mark that proved they were real.
It didn’t matter how much they looked like money. The light would reveal whether they were authentic.
And that got me thinking – there will come a day when our lives are held up to the light of God’s holiness. Not to see how well we behaved or how much we accomplished, but to reveal one thing: are we His?
Ephesians 1:13–14 says: "In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory."
It’s not about what we’ve done. It’s about who we belong to. And that mark – the Holy Spirit – is what makes us truly His.
