When something went wrong with my car, my first call was always to my dad. One night after church, my headlights randomly stopped working. I panicked, called him, and he drove 20 minutes to meet me. First thing he asked? “Did you try your high beams?” I hadn’t. Flipped them on... boom, headlights.
The next day, while I was at work, my brother showed up, grabbed my keys, and said Dad wanted to fix the lights. A little while later, he came back with my keys and… an invoice.
A real one – from Dad’s plumbing business.
I’ve kept that silly invoice for over 25 years. It’s one of my most treasured memories – not just because it’s funny, but because it reminds me how my dad always showed up for me, with help, humor, and a whole lot of love.
