Billy Graham once said, “Insanity is making no time for God on earth, and saying you want to spend eternity with Him.”
That is a pretty sobering thought.
It made me think about how easy it is for me to give my time to almost everything except God. Work gets time. My phone gets time. Errands get time. Entertainment gets time. Problems get time. And if I’m not careful, I get to the end of the day and realize I left very little room for Jesus.
Life gets noisy fast. And sometimes I wonder how often the Holy Spirit is trying to get my attention, but I’ve filled every quiet space with something else.
Jesus had people constantly needing Him. He was healing, teaching, helping, and surrounded by people who wanted His time. But He still made space to be with the Father.
Mark 1:35 says, “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”
That challenges me, because if Jesus made time to get away and pray, I know I need that too.
I don’t think the answer is finding some perfect quiet schedule where nothing ever interrupts me. I think it is being intentional enough to say no to some of the noise so I can say yes to time with God.
